In September 2018, Iraklis Fassourakis, during an on-site visit to the flour mill of Koletsos Brothers in Karditsa, located a wheat sorter on the 4th floor of the building. The machine was damaged and in danger since it has being abandoned. The City Museum of the Municipality of Karditsa was immediately informed and its director Fenia Lekka took care of the rescue, maintenance and promotion of the machine. Thanks to a team of contracted conservators of the museum and a team of in training conservators, the machine was dismantled and was transferred to the maintenance workshop of the City Museum, in the Karditsomagoulas complex. The aim of the Museum is to exhibit it in the permanent semi-outdoor exhibition space, which will be formed in the courtyard of the complex and will present the world of toil, highlighting the agro-industrial equipment of its collection.
Statement by the director of the Karditsa City Museum Fenia Lekka: "Today was an important day for the agricultural and industrial heritage of Karditsa and the City Museum of the Municipality of Karditsa. The disassembly of the wheat sorter that Iraklis Fassourakis had located last year, on the occasion of the oral history seminar of the Oral History Association with Riki Van Buschoten and her collaborators, which we had hosted. […]. We thank Giorgos Denisis, Anastasis Mavrogiannis, Giannis Charalambous, Barbara Gaidatzis, Costas Zachokostas and the worthy team of conservators and collaborators of the City Museum, several of whom are interns at the Public Vocational School of Karditsa and the Vocational School of OAED. […] "
Testimony from Mr. Tassos Matos: "I remember this machine (wheat sorter): they used it to sift the wheat to produce healthy and strong spores, to which a material (probably medicine) was added to ensure good sowing. If I'm not mistaken in our area this machine was called 'burando'. All this many, many years ago."
Our organisation is very proud that its searches have succeeded and helped to save a special machine of our agro-industrial economy.
